Teacher Of The Week #2:  Mrs. Anthonis
by Nancy Snodgrass

Mrs. Anthonis has been teaching for 30 years. She says that her favorite thing about teaching is interacting with the students and sharing her love of history.

What influenced her to become a teacher was that her grandmother and grandfather were both teachers and she used to go to the school with her grandmother in 1st grade. She also said, “I had some great teachers.”

She went to college and became a teacher for US History & Government/Economics. If Mrs. Anthonis could change anything about her job, she would go back to middle school to teach.

Teacher Of The Week #1:  Mr. Shula
Candy Cook & Briana Grant

This week we are honoring Mr. Shula for all of the hard work he has put into teaching at Searsport District High School. He has spent thirteen long years at our amazing school. Mr. Shula claims that his favorite part of teaching is interacting with all of the wonderful students.

Mr. Shula decided he wanted to be a teacher when he was 42 years old. He decided to leave journalism and try something new. He went out and got a bachelor’s degree and also took classes at UMaine.

Since Mr. Shula’s earlier career was as a writer, it was a natural choice for him to teach English. Additionally, a lot of his undergraduate credits were in English. Another reason he decided to teach was because his mother was a teacher.

When asked if he would change anything about his job, he gave a very interesting answer. He wants the students to be hungrier for education by the snap of his fingers. So make Mr. Shula happy and strive for your education!
